Exclusion fencing for the Davies' waxflower project

Threatened Plants Tasmania Inc and NRE Tas invite volunteers to assist with constructing herbivore exclusion fencing for the Davies’ waxflower project.

Trip overview

Once thought extinct, the Davies’ waxflower (Phebalium daviesii) is one of Tasmania’s rarest and most endangered species. It is currently known from a single population on the lower reaches of the George River in St Helens, north-east Tasmania. In collaboration with Threatened Plants Tasmania, NRE Tas are implementing a number of conservation interventions to save the species from the imminent risk of extinction.

One of these interventions is the sowing of Davies’ waxflower seed within fenced exclosures to test if the species can germinate and establish in the absence of herbivores. Taking place near St Helens, volunteers will be required to assist with the construction of these fences and the sowing of seeds within the exclosures.

This trip is managed by NRE Tas, and is open to everyone.
